QUEENBURY – Gerda Mary Madden, of Queensbury and formerly of Loon Lake, Chestertown, NY, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2015 at the Home of The Good Shepherd in Moreau at the age of 84 to "go upstairs" to be with her beloved husband, Bill.
Gerda was born July 10, 1930 in Huntington, NY. She was the daughter of Herman and Marie Berger.
Gerda grew up in East Northport, NY where she met her husband-to-be William Thomas Madden at the Northport Sugar Bowl. They were married February 3, 1951 until Bill's passing in 1981. Gerda was a housewife, raising her three children, and did custom cabinetry finishing work for her husband's woodworking business. During the summer months, Gerda enjoyed family time relaxing at the home she and her husband built together on Loon Lake in Chestertown.
Upon Bill's passing, Gerda retired to Loon Lake, where she enjoyed swimming, gardening, and taking long walks with her dog, Willie. She was a member of the Garden Club and Hospital Guild. She later relocated to the Baybridge Community in Queensbury to be closer to her two daughters.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gerda was predeceased by her sister, Ruthie Berger.
Survivors include her daughter, Terry Intelisano and husband Anthony of Lake George, NY, her daughter, Jill Wilson and husband Gary of Lake Wylie, SC, and her son, Gary Madden and his wife Diane of Brant Lake, NY; her grandchildren include Ryan Wilson, Brett Wilson, Jeffrey Madden and Renee Madden; her sister, Laura Morton of Long Island; and several nieces and nephews, including Jodie Hellman of Southbury, CT, Debbie Lamond of Glastonbury, CT, Shawn Wasp of Waterbury, CT, Dawn San Filippo of Lindenhurst, NY and Chip Morton of Nassau, NH.
We would like to offer a very special thank you to the staff and residents at the Home of the Good Shepherd for their compassion, care, and the love they showed Gerda during her stay with them.
