GLENS FALLS-Gilbert H. "Gib" Shaw, 78, of Stichman Towers, Glens Falls, passed away Monday night, May 14, 2012 at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 18, 1933 in Poultney, VT., he was the son of the late Herbert F. Shaw and Katherine (Shepard) Shaw Moore Lewis.
Gib was married to Patricia Nash in 1954, remarrying again to Betty Cooper in 1968. He adopted her two children, Robert E. Shaw and Jenny M. Shaw, both of Jacksonville, Florida. Gib had a companion, Ella Ross for over twenty years, until her passing. He loved her very much, and she loved him. He also had a little dog by the name of "Babe" who also predeceased him. Also, one sister-in-law, Patricia Shaw has predeceased him.
Gib worked at Ciba Geigy, some slate quarries in Granville, and also for Telescope in Granville.
Gib enjoyed fishing, yard sales, visiting family and having a few beers with friends. He was loved very much and will be greatly missed.
Survivors, besides his two adopted children, include three sisters, Mary Belden and her husband, Milfred, of Whitehall, Shirley Havens and her husband, Lawrence, of West Fort Ann, and Kay Squires and her husband, Ken, of Granville; three brothers, Herbert Shaw of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Robert Shaw and his companion, Jane, of Old Town, Florida, and Lawrence Shaw and his wife, Nancy, of Granville; many nieces, with special mention of Sherry Lamberson of Queensbury and Kathy Rich of Hudson Falls who were always there for him; nephews, with special mention of his nephew David Shaw of Lake Bomoseen, Vermont, who was a big help to Gib and his family; cousins; special friends, Clate and Mary Ballard of Hudson Falls, Roy Ross and his daughter, Bre, and Roy Ross' sister, Tammy; also a sister-in-law and dear friend, Freda Shaw.
Friends may call upon the family Friday, May 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street Queensbury.
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Brett Seals, pastor of Living Waters Church of God, Wilton, officiating.
Burial will follow at Poultney Cemetery, Poultney, Vermont.
