Obituary

BOLTON --- Harold H. Cooper passed away at The Pines at Glens Falls Nov. 26, 2008 following surgery. His wife, Josephine M. Cooper passed away peacefully May 9, 2012 at her home in Bolton.
Harold was born in Central, Idaho on Oct. 9, 1918 the son of the late Fred and Zina (Anderson) Cooper. His family moved to Chestertown, NY in 1923 where he grew up. He enlisted in the United States Army in Feb. 1942 and took basic training in the 3rd Armored Division at Camp Polk, Louisiana. He received medical training as a surgical technician at Billing General Hospital. He was transferred to the 7th Armored Division as part of the training cadre when it was formed. The 7th sailed for Europe in June 1944 and entered combat at the break out of the bridge head in France. He served in France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany and was on the shores of the North Sea when Germany surrendered. After a short term with the army of occupation, Harold returned to the United States, being honorably discharged in Oct. 1945 with the rank of Technician 4th Grade, receiving a purple heart for the Battle of the Bulge.
Josephine was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 29, 1915, the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Tancibok) Nisky. Her family moved back to Czechoslovakia in 1920 where she lived until the age of 18, before returning to the United States. She worked mostly in the New York City area as a domestic. In Aug. 1943 she entered the Women's Army Corps, becoming a Mess Sergeant with the rank of Technician 4th Grade. She served mostly at Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia and Ft. Myer, Virginia, being honorably discharged in April 1946. She continued cooking at various places, finally arriving at a local dude ranch in the Warrensburg area.
Harold and Josephine were married on Jan. 12, 1947. In 1948 they bought the Albert Pratt Farm on East Schroon River Rd. in Bolton, where they have since resided while raising their family.
Harold is predeceased by two sisters, Inez Bartlett and Ila Vanderwalker; and two brothers, Verl and F. Don.
Josephine is predeceased by one sister, Helen Milata; and three brothers, Frank, Anton, and Aloise.
They are both survived by one daughter, Naomi; two sons, Anton and Coby; many nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
At their request, there will be no calling hours or memorial services.
Friends are invited to join the family for a graveside ceremony, with military honors provided by Warrensburg American Legion Post No. 466, on Aug. 17, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Cooper plot at Warrensburg Cemetery, with the Rev. Tom Pettigrew of Church of the Holy Cross officiating.
