A graveside service will take place Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Granville.
GLENS FALLS -- Harry F. VanGuilder Sr., 80, of Cherry Street, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family following a short illness, on Dec. 28, 2015.
Born April 3, 1935 in Truthville, he was the son of Charles E. and Marsalene (Bushea) VanGuilder.
He graduated from Corinth High School and attended Albany Business College.
Harry retired from Patrcician Paper (SCA) after 30 years of dedicated service as a forklift operator/laborer.
His biggest enjoyment was his family, which he loved tremendously. He cherished the times they spent traveling across country. He also had a love of hunting.
A special day in his life was the day he married the love of his life, Dorothy E. Palmer, on April 10, 1960 at the Salvation Army in Glens Falls. They recently had celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Harry was predeceased by his parents, as well as one son, Clayton VanGuilder; two brothers, James W. VanGuilder Sr. and Arthur T. VanGuilder; and one sister, Elizabeth Pixley.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy E. Palmer; one daughter, Susan VanGuilder of Glens Falls; one son, Harry (Terri) VanGuilder Jr. of Whitehall; two sister, Lucy Sherman Stark, formerly of Corinth and Mildred Munchbach of Galway; two brothers, Charles (Deborah) VanGuilder of Queensbury and Alfred (Rita) VanGuilder of So.Glens Falls; as well as, 8 grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will take place Wednesday, December 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Meredith Vanderminden of United Methodist, Queensbury officiating.
Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Middle Granville in the spring.
The family suggests in place of flowers that memorial donations be made to the Glens Falls Salvation Army "New Chapel Fund" at 13-15 Chester St., Glens Falls, NY, 12801.
