FORT ANN --- Harry R. Ward, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 13, 2016.
Born June 21, 1935 in Albany, he was the son of Army SSG Harry Ward of Albany and Letty (Siddon) Ward of Hudson Falls, both predeceased him. Harry is also predeceased by his brother Rudy Ward.
Harry was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School, Class of 1953 where he was very active in sports, better known as "Crazy legs" due to his talents on the football field.
He proudly joined the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as Sergeant.
On July 31, 1956, he married his wife, Ayako "June" Ward, in Yokohama, Japan. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Harry was employed as a salesman at Higgins Candy Company of Glens Falls for 35 years. He then worked with Sperry Advertising. He loved sales. In his retirement years, he found great enjoyment building picnic tables and Adirondack chairs and selling them to local buyers. He would receive many friendly waves from passerbys throughout the day.
For many years, he and his wife loved to spend time at their time share and relaxing in the Florida sun. They took many trips along the east coast with lifelong family friends, Skip and Jan Finnegan.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ayako "June" Ward of Fort Ann; two sons, Gary Ward of South Glens Falls, and retired Army Major Jeffrey R. Ward of Florida; one daughter, Michelle (Ward) Jones and her partner Michael Greenwood of Queensbury; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Rolleston, Chad Jones, Brittany Jones, Rachel (Ward) Lashinsky and husband Dan, Lesa Ward, Briana (Ward) Davidson and husband HRon Davidson; five great-grandchildren, Lucas and Gavin Rolleston, Lucas and Dylan Lashinsky, and first great-granddaughter, Carolyn Davidson.
Calling hours will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 24 at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
Burial with military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
