Obituary

Glens Falls, NY - Our beloved Heather Kathleen Gibney, passed peacefully at home in her sleep to join our Lord on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

Heather was born on July 19, 1967 in Orange County, California to U.S. Naval Master Chief Michael Thomas Gibney and his loving wife Kathleen Mary (Bendon) Gibney, LP of Saratoga Springs (both deceased) who later settled in Hawai'i.

Heather was the third of four children, eldest brother Michael Thomas Gibney, Jr. of Canada (wife Mara, children Emma and Evan), Daniel Christopher Gibney from Hawai'I (wife Jean, children Daniel, Spencer and Sarah) and youngest sister Shannon Kathleen Gibney Christopher (deceased).

She was an incredible woman of service who enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard 1986, became a sharpshooter, and was honorably discharged in 1988.  While in the Guard, she was married briefly to Frankie Shaver and bore a handsome son, Mitchell Frankie Shaver.

Our social butterfly loved life, the outdoors, and gatherings with family and friends.  She was smitten by a talented musician, Michael Albert Howe and they were married from 2003 thru 2009, and remained close friends.  A special thank you to Mike, his sister, Karen and Guy Brennan (Mitchell's godparents), their son Guy Kelly and his wife Kate, and their daughter Paige, who have adopted Heather's puppy "Woofy".

Heather dedicated her life to helping others, aiding those with disabilities to improve their quality of life.  She worked with ARC and recently retired with the State of New York, due to back injuries.  She had hoped to move back to Hawai'i to be near her brother, enjoying the white sandy beaches, surf, swimming with dolphins and turtles.

A private service will be held at a future date, where her remains will be scattered at Makua Beach, a spot frequented by the family in Hawai'i.  We are sure Heather is celebrating in heaven with her parents, sister and loved ones.

Mitch and the family would like to thank you all for the prayers and well wishes.  Let's celebrate Heather's life by taking care of each other.  God bless you all.  Cheers to you Heather.
