Obituary

Behind every good kid are great parents.

GLENS FALLS – Mrs. Helen Jones passed away comfortably on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

Helen was born to Lithuanian immigrants, Anthony and Patricia Alecknavic, at home on Clay Hill, in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. on April 19, 1929.

She graduated top of her class from St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls and then attended beauty school in Albany where she received her cosmetology license.

Helen married her husband of 65 years, Robert "Bob" A. Jones, Sr., on Thanksgiving Day in 1947 at The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Hoosick Falls.

As a stay-at-home mom, together with Bob, they raised three boys and six girls in Glens Falls. As the children reached school age she was ready to prepare for another career. She completed the Glens Falls Hospital LPN program, under Barbara Williams, and went immediately on for her RN degree; first through ACC and then the NYS external degree program. She was employed for many years before she retired from Glens Falls Hospital. Prior to her late husband's passing on February 6, 2013, Helen and Bob enjoyed many years volunteering with Meals on Wheels and loved to spend vacations traveling with family and friends. Even more than her own many successes, she took great pride and joy in the successful lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Everyone who spent time with Helen learned from her wonderful and true spirit. In words and actions she taught us to be kind, patient, understanding and considerate.
Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Susie in July 1968; her nephew Steve Jones; daughter-in-law Pamela Merrett Jones; son-in-law Stephen Lynn; and sisters, Vera, Olga, and Frances.

Left to cherish her memory are her eight surviving children: Denny Jones (Pauline), Barbara Ann Lynn, Francie Lewis (Dick), Rob Jones, Jr. (Diane), Therese Sheehan (Pat), Carol Jones, Kathleen Jones and Fred Jones (Laura); fifteen grandchildren: Daniel, Nathan and Stephanie Jones; Joe and Matthew Lynn; Jon and Kyle Lewis; Sarah, Julie and Katie Jones; Rebecca and Megan Sheehan; Sydney Jones; and Tyler and Elise Jones; eight great-grandchildren: Breanne and Carter Lewis; Olivia and Cody Lewis; Hartley, Merrett and Corinne Jones; and Charlotte Lynn; a sister-in-law Eleanor Cathcart; a brother-in-law Arthur J. Jones (Joan); special nephews Mike and David Jones; and many other family and friends.

She will be missed and honored by all who were blessed to have known her.

A wake will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Friday, May 30, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lake George, with the Rev. Paul Cox officiating.

Interment will immediately follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or North Country Ministry, P.O. Box 111, North Creek, NY 12853.

The family wishes sincerest thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at Glens Falls Hospital.
