Obituary

QUEENSBURY — Herbert G. Mattison, known as Gary "Herbie" Mattison, 69, of Ridge Road, Queensbury, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side.

He was born Aug. 3, 1942, in Baltimore, Md., the son of Herbert and Margaret (Haskins) Mattison.

He attended Lake George High School, and remained a lifetime resident of Queensbury.

His employment was as a mill wright at Nibco Corp. in South Glens Falls, retiring after 39 years of dedicated work.

In 1965, Gary built his beautiful wife her dream home with his own hands. He was the jack of all trades and the master of many. He had many talents. God gave him many great gifts.

In his younger years, he was an avid bowler, played baseball, and shot a mean horse shoe. He loved competition, and would usually win. Following retirement, he took up the game of golf.

To most people, he was affectionately known as "Herbie." He was everybody's handyman, everyone's friend. He was a great cook and loved to entertain people. He was a great father, husband and loving papa, a real family man. He always put family first. He will always be in our hearts, and we will keep his spirit alive.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ann Mattison of Queensbury; two daughters, Tammy Monroe of Argyle, and Christine Pescari and her husband, Daniel, of Hudson Falls; three grandsons, Joshua Monroe, Jacob Monroe, and Dyllon Martelle, and two granddaughters, Jessica Monroe, and Elizabeth Pescari; three brothers, John Mattison of Argyle, Jimmy Mattison of Queensbury, and Leon Mattison and his wife, Linda, of South Glens Falls; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Monday, April 9, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lamont Robinson, pastor of Harrisena Community Church, officiating.

Burial will follow at Bay Street Cemetery, Glens Falls.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Glens Falls Hospital Cancer Center, with a special thanks to Dr. Pillimer and his staff.

Donations, in loving memory of Gary, may be made to the Glens Falls Hospital Cancer Center, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
