Obituary

QUEENSBURY -- Herbert "Bob" R. Tyrer Jr., 80, of Whispering Pines, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 at his home.

Bob was born on June 3, 1934 in Staten Island, NY, the son of the late Herbert R. Tyrer Sr. and Esther S. (Tandberg) Tyrer.

A veteran of the US Army, Bob was enlisted from 1955 to 1957 and was recognized as a top sharp shooter.

After his time spent with the Army Bob worked at Proctor and Gamble on Staten Island. He found his true calling in 1965 as an Auctioneer and buyer at Lubin Galleries in NY City. He moved to Lake George, NY in 1975 and opened an antique store in Lake George Village at the old First National Bank. Soon after he opened Glens Falls Antique Center on the corner of Sanford and Bay Street in Glens Falls which was one of the first antique centers in NY State. In 1980 Bob opened "HR Tyrer Galleries" Auction Gallery located on Upper Glen St. and was very successful. He also established, owned, and operated Glenwood Manor Antiques in 1982. Bob belonged to the Appraisers Association of America and was well known for his vast knowledge of antiques and fine arts.

Bob was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all. He is survived by his two sisters, Irene Zabriskie, and Suzanne Tyrer; two children, Stephen Tyrer, his wife Jaqueline, along with their daughter Stephanie Tyrer, and Jennifer Jacobs, her husband Michael, and their children Michelle Meola, Sarah, Heather, and Gregory Jacobs, and one great-granddaughter Lillian, daughter of Michelle. Nieces and Nephews include Irene Zabriskie's three children, Daniel Zabriskie, wife Sarah, Michael Zabriskie, wife Michelle, along with their five children, and Linda Zabriskie, husband Jeffrey Noble; and Suzanne Tyrer's two children, Kimberly Lyon with her 3 children, and Laura Tyrer and her child.

Friends may call on the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014 at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

The funeral service will commence at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home with Deacon Nancy Goff officiating.

Burial will follow at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 220 Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
