Obituary

QUEENSBURY --- Irene Tokos, 98, passed away after a brief illness on September 10, 2023, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born December 4, 1924, in Johnson City, NY, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (Chambelik) Gaidorus.

After graduating High School, Irene married her Husband, Louis Tokos, where they began to build their life. Irene and her Husband were extremely hard workers. In her earlier years, Irene, in addition to caring for their young son, would often be found at the 'Tokos Bait and Sporting Goods' that was operated in a building behind their home where they sold fishing bait, gear & tackle supplies as well as boats and outboard motors. Over the course of the next few years Irene and her Husband in 1954 founded Glenwood Builders Supply and shortly after built their home in Endwell, NY. After her Husband's passing, she and her son Louis continued to operate the business, eventually selling it in 1986 after the many years in business.

Irene then began another chapter in her life and relocated to Lake George, NY to be with her family, to include her newly born great-grandson. A few years later she was blessed with a great-granddaughter. From that time forward she was known as 'MEME'. She played a very large role in her grandchildren's lives.

Although Irene traveled throughout her life, she especially loved her road trip to Tennessee where she, her dog Peaches and her grandchildren ventured via motorhome. She was so proud to be able to stand on the Grand Ol' Opry stage and sing as this is something that she loved to do. She even recorded a few records earlier in her life.

Irene was an amazing cook and always made sure that all of the ethnic and holiday meals that she prepared were made with the best ingredients and with lots of love. If she wasn't cooking or with her family on an adventure, she would often be found crocheting blankets & scarves, playing cards and enjoyed her time at the Queensbury Senior Center. At a young age, Irene's family housed developing baseball players in the farm leagues, it was then that she developed a love for baseball. She loved to watch her beloved NY Yankees play on TV as well as in person, but her favorite was watching her great-grandson play and then over the years, her great-granddaughter play softball. Irene and her family were blessed to have and make so many wonderful memories together.

Irene was pre-deceased by her husband Louis Tokos, Sr. and her beloved dogs, Tami, Kandi, Peaches and Anna. Left to cherish her memory include her beloved son Louis Tokos of Lake George/Queensbury, and the one of whom she loved as the daughter she never had, Kathleen Tokos of Queensbury, NY, Granddaughter Jessyca Darrah (Tokos) and her Husband Charles or as she called him "Papa Mama", Grandson, William Tokos, Plattsburgh, NY. For anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Irene, you knew that she was a kind-hearted woman that was always dressed to impress and loved her lipstick. To remember Irene, the next time you put your lipstick on make sure to look at yourself in the mirror and remind yourself just how amazing you are. For the men, if you chose to put the lipstick, so be it, just make sure it's red because that was Irene's favorite, but if you don't, make sure to tell that special lady in your life just how beautiful she is!!

The family wishes to Thank Dr. Tedesco and staff on Tower 6 at the Glens Falls Hospital and the entire staff at Westley Community Short -term rehabilitation, Saratoga Springs, NY.
