GLENS FALLS --- Jack Edwin Macy, 92, of Glens Falls, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at Haynes House of Hope in Granville after a long illness.
Born January 2, 1922, in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the oldest of four children of the late Lee and Olive (Vail) Macy. After attending Ohio State, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and proudly served in the European theatre during World War II with Company G, 301st Infantry Regiment, 94th Division. He landed on Omaha Beach one week after D-Day and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
Jack pursued an insurance career with Buckeye Union and Continental Insurance Co. in Columbus, Ohio, retiring in May, 1982. After moving to Glens Falls, he worked as an agent/broker with Wise Insurance in Saratoga. Jack enjoyed playing tennis and racquetball, but he loved his golf, heart and soul, winning many tournaments and trophies. Playing at St. Andrew's in Scotland with his son Greg was one of his most memorable times.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Jane Weisenberger, his son, Gregory Macy, and his sisters, Janet Lake and Marilyn "Ming" Reich.
Jack is survived by his wife and companion, Ruth; his son, Mark (Pam) Macy and his daughter, Michelle Macy, both of Evergreen, CO; his brother, Robert (Freida) Macy; grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer, Travis, Katelyn, Dona, Christopher, and Tucker; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Lila, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held by his family at a later date.
