Obituary

QUEENSBURY --- Jim Maynes died at home with his family by his side on March 13, 2018 at the age of 77. He is survived by his partner of 15 years, Emma Liporace, his daughter, Beth, and sons, Peter, Eric and Joe, as well as an extended family and many friends. He is pre-deceased by his two sons, Scott and Shawn, and his wife, Norma Shimas Maynes.

James Augustus Maynes was born September 20, 1940, and raised in Albany, NY by his mother, Helen Buchanan, brother, John, sister, Nancy, and a close family of aunts and uncles. As a young man, he attended Vincentian High School and worked in his brother's roofing company before joining the Army in 1958 which included a two-year deployment to Korea in 1960. After serving, Jim joined the Niagara Mohawk Power Company where he worked for 35 years, starting in the mail room and retiring as the Regional Manager. Jim loved to work, and he had a passion for construction. A gifted builder, he spent most of his adult life building and renovating (and re-renovating) homes for his families and friends, and he taught all of his kids how to swing a hammer. You could find him late at night on a ladder hanging a ceiling or renovating a kitchen over the weekend. He threw himself into every new project the way he tackled life - fearlessly, with gusto and an unwavering positive attitude.

Jim was generous. He often put his skills to work for others, helping neighbors and his community. Always eager to help or to listen, Jim was a loyal friend who genuinely cared for people. To his friends in Florida, he was known as "Jim the Handyman" and the "Mayor of the Park".  He touched many peoples' lives, and he will be missed by all of the people who got to know him. Jim was a devout Catholic, and his faith was a guiding force in his life. He was a congregant of both St. Mary's and St. Alphonses for many years before joining Our Lady of the Annunciation in Queensbury later in life.

The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who helped Jim through his last difficult years, in particular, Dr. William Borgos, Dr. Desmond DelGiacco, his home-caregiver, Rayeanne Morin, and the loving nurses from the High Peaks Hospice. Their guidance and caring allowed our Jim to spend his last days at home, an immeasurable gift to his family.

There will be a Catholic mass celebrated, Monday, March 19, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation for the family. There are no calling hours. For those who wish to make a donation in Jim's memory, the family suggests the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 12 Avis Dr., Latham, NY 12110, and the High Peaks Hospice of Glens Falls, NY, 79 Glenwood Ave., 2 nd floor, Queensbury, NY 12804.

Condolences may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
