QUEENSBURY --- James John Belrose, 81, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Born November 24, 1944, in New York City, he was the son of James Belrose and Evelyn Martin.
James graduated from Fort Hunter High School in Guilderland, NY in 1963. He joined the Army National Guard in 1967 and then became a part of the Albany Carpenters Union in 1968.
James married Delores Van Auken at St. Madeline Sophie Church in Guilderland, NY in 1966.
He was an independent, self-employed home builder and remodeler. His company, Belrose Builders, was successful and active in the Adirondack region in the early 1970’s to 80’s. Many home residences, hotel units and other fine examples of his craftsmanship are still standing and in use today.
James was an avid car enthusiast. He enjoyed high performance muscle cars of the late 1950’s and 60’s. He was especially proud of his 1964 Dodge Polara and 1968 Dodge Dart GTS. He was also a member of the Capital Area Mopars.
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his brother, Jack Belrose.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Delores (Van Auken) Belrose of Schroon Lake; children, James M. Belrose (Lisa) of Marietta, GA, Joseph M. Belrose (Paul) of Glenville, and Jonathan M. Belrose (Jennifer) of Schroon Lake; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Jeanine Crounse Belrose and Gail Belrose; and brother, Barry Belrose; also, two nieces, a nephew, and many cousins.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation with the Rev. Joseph Busch officiating.
A graveside ceremony will follow at Pine View Cemetery.
