The eagle has flown away.

FORT EDWARD – James L. "Jim" Chant Sr., 85, of White Birch Estates, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born in Edgewater Park, N.J. on Oct. 4, 1930, Jim was the son of the late George and Mary (Gamble) Chant.

Jim received his education from Rutgers University in the study of Agriculture though he was a professional semi-truck driver for 20 years at Trailways until his retirement.

Some of his enjoyments included horses, trucks, NASCAR, and being outdoors in nature. Above all he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Jim married his love, Donna J. Blanchard.

He was a member of The Saratoga Masons , Saratoga Shriners, and Washington Commandery No. 33.

Along with his parents, Jim was predeceased by three sons, James Chant Jr., George Chant, and Michael Chant; a sister, Elizabeth Chant; and brother, Joseph Chant.

Left to cherish his lasting memory are his loving wife, Donna Chant of Fort Edward; 4 children, Patricia Chant of Fort Edward, Sean Chant of Gansevoort, Shane Chant of Evergreen, Co., and Shea Chant of Orlando, Fla.; 20 adored grandchildren; 7 precious great-grandchildren, Henry Christopher Debar, Jules Grier Debar, Charlotte Debar, Natalie Nelson, Jonathan Nelson, Madison Martino, and Jacobie Nieves; along with his beloved cat, Spook.

There will be no services at this time.

Special thanks are sent to his extended family, Donna's children and grandchildren, his sons and daughter, Patricia. He will be greatly missed by all of these people.

Jim was known to have a very special connection to eagles from his Indian heritage.
