James M.
Mulligan
Jul 29, 1933 — Nov 16, 2024
James M. Mulligan, 91 passed into Heaven to join his beloved Ann on Saturday, November 16, 2024. His heart was broken since her loss 38 days earlier.
James was the son of Daniel and Mary (Kenny) Mulligan. James was born in New York City and raised in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY. James was one of 6 children. He was always an athlete and hard worker. He was a hero lifeguard at Rockaway Beach, Queens, loving the sun, sand and ocean. James joined the US Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged when his own father passed leaving his mother with children at home. James became a NYPD police officer and rapidly earned the rank of Detective 1st Grade. He was especially proud of his work and his success. After retirement he worked for Designs for Vision, Inc. as VP Sales.
James met his beautiful wife Ann (Boyd) on Rockaway Beach. They married in 1959 and moved to Rockland County NY where they raised 3 daughters. James and Ann had a special marriage of 65 years. They were inseparable, always laughing and enjoying their family and friends. They enjoyed traveling to all areas of the US, having homes in Lake George, NY and Longboat Key, Fl. James loved to drive and was eager to "throw his girls in the car & go" on an adventure. Most memorably the trip across the US to California. James was proud of his country, loved the outdoors and visited many national parks. James and Ann settled in Lake George, where they enjoyed boating on the Mulligan Stew.
James was always an early riser. He made the most of every day of his life. He was a longtime member of the YMCA (West Side YMCA, NYC & Glens Falls YMCA). James either ran or swam every day. He was introduced to golf and that became a passion for him. He was an excellent golfer, just as he excelled in his other sports. He had two "hole-in-one's", because one wasn't enough.
He and his quick wit will be missed by all who met and knew him. He will be especially missed by his 3 daughters, Doreen (William) Hurley, Deborah (Kent) Phillips and Jennifer (Jeff) Maltbie, grandchildren, Devin (Maura) Hurley, Sarah Phillips, Ashleigh Phillips, Brittany Hurley and Melanie Maltbie, and great-grandson Liam Hurley.
Services are private.
James will be laid to rest at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of James' healthcare providers, staff at Pruyn Pavillion and Glens Falls Hospital. They would also like to thank the Lake George Emergency Squad.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in James' name to Tunnel to Towers , 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306 or St. Jude's , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Condolences may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804 or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
