Obituary

SOUTH GLENS FALLS --- Janet A. Whiting, 80, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024, with loved ones by her side.

Born October 18, 1943, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Robert and Madeline (Smith) Ladabouch.

After many years of fostering over 100 children, she went back to school as an adult to receive her bachelor's degree in social work from the University of Albany. She worked as a caseworker for Warren County Adult Protective Services/CASA.

She married George Whiting in November of 1972. She enjoyed singing old country western songs, reading, playing board games, and family gatherings. She especially enjoyed playing cards and dice with her sisters and brother-in-law every Tuesday. She started the program "Adopt-a-Senior" at Warren County, which is still going strong today.

In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her first husband, Timothy DeStefano on July 1, 1973, and second husband, George Whiting on January 1, 1991; and brothers, Robert (Belle) and Ralph (Rita) Ladabouch.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Victoria (Ty) Hall, Sylvia DeStefano, Tim "TJ" (Donna) DeStefano, Jr., Sheilla Schenk, Loren (Terry) Shipley, and Chris (Melissa) Shipley; grandchildren, Casey Blair, Matthew, Jeffrey, and Tim Jr. Shufelt, Angela Du Ross, Rena, Tim III, and Carmine DeStefano, Joshua Swinton, Cameron, Paige, Hannah, Mikayla Shipley, Christopher and Eric Shipley, Brooke Settles and Julie Jeffords; great-grandchildren, Austin, Hayley, Matthew, Gracie, Nick, Brayden, Ryleigh, and Ellyanna Shufelt, Gina Yarter, Megan Fish, Maia and Emma Brown, Graysen Blair, Jordan, Landon, Hank, Audriana, Olivia, and Oliver DeStefano, Evan and Hope Lake, Kaiden McIntyre, Selena Jeffords, Somyah, Alasia, Jaceon, John Jr., and Chevelle Settles, Wesley, Alana, Mason, and  Everleigh Shipley; and great-great-grandchildren, Zacheriah and Oaklynn; sisters, Sally (Buck) Sheldon, Anne Ladabouch; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will take place Friday, March 1, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A funeral service will immediately follow at 12 p.m.

A graveside ceremony will take place after the funeral at Glens Falls Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses, staff on 4W at Glens Falls Hospital.
