WEST GLENS FALLS--- Jay G. Porter, 71, of West Glens Falls, passed away at Glens Falls Hospital, Wednesday, September 25, 2013, after a long illness.
Born in 1942 in Fort Edward, he was the son of the late Bernice (Gilmore) and Bernard Porter.
Jay was a big fan of the New York Giants and loved racecars.
After graduating from Albany High School, Jay went to work for SCA, Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget, in Glens Falls, until his retirement.
In 1965, he married his lifelong partner and wife, Sally Hall.
In addition to his parents, Jay was predeceased by his sister, Wilma Porter, and one brother-in-law, Jim Hall.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sally; five nieces, April Hall and her husband, Chuck, of Scotia, Becky Hall of Hudson Falls, Ellen Marie, Bridget, and Jana Hall; five nephews, Kevin Bennet, Kenneth Hall, Bruce Hall, Jim Hall, and Jeff Hall: sister-in-law, Loretta Hall; as well as several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the doctors and nurses at the Glens Falls Hospital who helped Jay the night of his passing.

Friends may call upon the family Friday, Sept. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
Funeral services will follow the calling hours at the funeral home at 6 p.m. performed by the past fire chief, Mike Palmer and members of the West Glens Falls Fire Dept.
