Obituary

Fort Edward – Jean N. Baulsir passed away on Sunday January 21, 2024 at Saratoga Hospital at the age of 92.  Her last days were spent surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born in Somerville, MA on July 8, 1931 to the late Stearns H. and Margaret J. (Gaspar) Whitney, one of seven children. She married Elmer F. Baulsir on August 31, 1952 in White Plains NY and started her married life in Poughkeepsie NY.  She was employed by Dutchess County BOCES where she was a teacher assistant for 20 years, working with handicapped children. Jean and her husband moved to Queensbury NY in 1995. They were active in the Queensbury and Moreau Senior Centers. Jean enjoyed volunteering with the Moreau Fun Band, Warren County Tourism Bureau, and RSVP for Warren, Washington and Saratoga counties.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Glens Falls, NY, participating in the church choir and many other church activities. Jean resided at The Oaks in Fort Edward for 9 years where she developed many friendships. At The Oaks, Jean lead a daily exercise group and organized an outdoor social group that met daily during the pandemic to reduce the isolation many were feeling.

Jean was a creative and talented artist. She enjoyed having her young grandchildren stay with her each summer at her home in Poughkeepsie. Each was sure to come home with a new craft project and wonderful memories. She particularly enjoyed creating stained glass projects and painting. It was important to Jean that each member of her family had one of her paintings and stained glass, which are treasured by all.  Jean truly loved spending time with her family and friends.

Jean was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, her parents and siblings Stearns Jr (Jeanne) Whitney, Robert (Dottie) Whitney, Donald (Pauline) Whitney, Audrey (Paul) Greenquist and sister-in-law Alice Whitney.

She is survived by her sons Daniel Baulsir (Barbara Foucault) of LaPine OR and Thomas (Amy) Baulsir of Gansevoort NY; her grandchildren Jennifer (Peter) Grazian of Vancouver WA, Melissa (Michael) Warford of Oregon City OR, Jonathan (Deborah) Baulsir of Glen Allen VA, Kathryn Baulsir (Joe Marshall) of Kattskill Bay NY and Brian (Erin) Baulsir of Gansevoort NY; her great grandchildren Hannah Grazian, Tyler (Stephanie) Brewer, Nicholas (Emily), Zachary and Brendan Warford, Teagan, Braelyn and Bryce Baulsir, Malarie Schoonover, Clayton and June Baulsir; her great-great grandchildren Lillian and Easton Brewer; her siblings Barbara (Joseph) McLaughlin of Kingston NH and David Whitney of Red Hook NY; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, January 30 from 1 pm to 3 pm at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St Queensbury NY.

A funeral service will immediately follow at 3 pm.

Following the service, friends and family are invited to YMCA Camp Chingachgook, 1872 Pilot Knob Rd, Kattskill Bay, NY for a reception.

Burial will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Pine View Cemetery in Queensbury, New York.
