QUEENSBURY --- Jean Bennett Weeks, age 88, of Montray Road, Queensbury, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at her home with her family by her side.
Born March 17, 1924, in Glens Falls, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Harry H. and Helen Pearl (Rheinlander) Bennett.
Following graduation from Glens Falls High School, Class of 1941, Jean married her childhood sweetheart, Donald V. Weeks on Dec. 18, 1943 at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls.
For 18 years, she was employed by Dr. John DeLong, Dr. Herbert Bartholomew, and Dr. Stephen Serlin as their office manager. After enjoying a couple years of retirement, she started to work in her husband's business, V. W. Weeks & Son's Inc. After his death in 1986, she and her son, Don, continued running the family business until 1992.
She was an active member of the Pearl McGowan Rug Hookers Guild, and also the Harrisena Branch of the Glens Falls Hospital Guild. She enjoyed her many hobbies and working in her yard. She taught traditional rug hooking for over 20 years in her home and enjoyed attending the Teachers workshops held in Worcester, Mass.
Besides her parents, and her husband, Don, one brother, Kenneth Bennett and his wife, Ruth, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edith and Varnum W. Weeks, and one sister-in-law, Harriet Strough, have all predeceased her.
Survivors include her two sons, Richard C. Weeks and Donald V. Weeks Jr. and his wife, Laurie; her three grandchildren, Bethany Jones, Marc Weeks and partner Scott Gibree, and Jenine Weeks and fiancé, Dave LaCross; three great-grandchildren, Koda, Sedona, and Quinn Jones; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Libby and her husband, Richard, of Jupiter, Florida; and Jean's best friend and canine companion, Samantha.
An hour of remembrance will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
A memorial service will follow, Saturday at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lamont Robinson, pastor of Harrisena Community Church, officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Rd., Queensbury.
