Jeanne A.
Newell
Nov 5, 1940 — Oct 29, 2024
QUEENSBURY - It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Jeanne A. Newell, 83, of Queensbury, formerly of Lake George, on October 29, 2024, after her battle with ovarian cancer.
Born on November 5, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, Jeanne was the daughter of the late Clarence Millspaugh and Dorothy Heuer Millspaugh.
After high school, Jeanne started her career as an executive assistant at the former National City Bank in downtown Cleveland where she met her husband, Thomas Newell. As their family grew, they decided to move to Lake George, New York where they frequently vacationed at the former Hidden Valley Ranch.
Jeanne quickly found work at SUNY Adirondack, initially as a faculty administrative aid and through her more than 30-year tenure at the College, ultimately working as the executive assistant to the president of the college. Over her time at the College, Jeanne made countless friends and selflessly served the College finding joy in every minute dedicated to helping both staff and students.
When Jeanne was not working, she was a supportive mother, following her children all over the state attending their sporting events. No matter what the sport or the location, she was there cheering in the stands not missing a game. After her children graduated, she began working at the Lake George Steamboat Company. Over the next ten summers, Jeanne graced visitors to Lake George with her larger-than-life personality, bringing a smile where she could and kindness in all she did.
Jeanne is predeceased by her sister, Joanne Rush.
She is survived by Thomas Newell, her husband of 50 years; her daughter, Alison Blessing; son, Justin (Rebecca) Newell; and grandchildren, Reed Newell, and Katelyn Soto.
A heartfelt "thank you" is due to the countless nurses and doctors at Glens Falls Hospital and the volunteers at Gateway House of Peace who treated Jeanne with love and kindness during the last few weeks of her battle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Jeanne A. Newell to SUNY Adirondack Foundation, Annual Fund, 640 Bay Rd, Queensbury, NY 12804 or Gateway House of Peace, 479 Rowland St, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
