LAKE GEORGE --- Jeannette Putnam Cates Vosburgh, of Gunn Lane in Cleverdale, NY passed away peacefully on January 12, 2021, at the age of 91, with her daughters by her side. Born December 22, 1929, in Houlton, Maine to Harold Farnum Cates and Harriette Carpenter Putnam Cates. Predeceased by one sister, Frances Ann, age 15: sister-in-law, Mary Louise Shanklin, and beloved husband of 63 years, Dr. William Thomas Vosburgh.
Attended high school in Los Angeles, California and one year at UCLA. Transferred to University of Maine at Orono graduating with a degree in Sociology. At UM she met Bill who took her to hike and ski Tuckerman's Ravine. He wanted to see what she was made of… deciding this was the girl for him. They married their junior year in 1950 and were together until his death in 2013.
She helped her husband earn his PhD in Psychology at Syracuse University while raising four daughters. The family moved to Narragansett, R.I. and into their home "YellowPatch" (now on the historical register).
Jeannette was President of the League of Women Voters; Head Regent DAR (Daughters American Republic); she was a member of University Women and a PTA volunteer. She was an amazing seamstress and landscape gardener. She had a flair for decorating her home and herself.
When her husband retired from URI they winterized the family summer camp and retired to Lake George, N.Y. Traveling around the country in their motor home; sailing; fly fishing; skiing; gardening and bird watching were favorite activities. Always with her dogs and cats by her side!!!!
She was a fabulous cook and gracious hostess producing many meals to be shared round her table… the more the merrier. Her love of family and the lake were huge. The passing of a very welcoming, loving, elegant and classy lady.
She is survived by her four daughters; Lisa V. Earl (Jay) of Diamond Pt., Beverly Vosburgh of Homer, AK and Portal AZ, Evan Connolly (Chris) of Lake George, and Jean Garry (Mike) of Lake George; seven grandchildren, Fanya Bleu DeForest (Nate), Tara Coltey (Zach), Travis Earl (Jana), Alexandra Garry (AJ), Gavin Garry, and Will and Cora Connolly; four great-grandchildren, Isabell, Rylan, Xavier, and Scarlett; as well as three nieces, Kipp, Karen and Martha.
