Queensbury – Jeannette Parmelee, 73, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at her home after a brief battle with leukemia. She was surrounded by her family and close friends.
Born May 20, 1940, in Queens, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Jeannette (Maskiell) Rosson.
In her early years, Jan was an at-home mom with unending energy and devotion to her children. She later worked as an operating room nurse at Syosset Hospital on Long Island for many years and after retirement, at Glens Falls Hospital when needed. Her nursing skills earned her great respect in the medical community.
Jan loved spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren. She could be seen in the stands at games and on the sidelines of every cross country meet cheering them on. She never missed a concert, scout ceremony or school event.
Jan's other passion was travel. Whether it was to Russia, China, Israel, Italy, Turkey, Ireland, Austria, the Czech Republic, and almost every state in the US, Jan, accompanied by her dearest friend Alice Hergert, wanted to see it all. She appreciated learning about other cultures. The more foreign the country, the more intrigued she was. One of her favorite trips was to Wilmington, North Carolina to see her cousin Bruce Kubeck whom she adored.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Parmelee Ludlow.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Winslow and her husband Rick of Queensbury; her daughter Patty Savin and her husband Tom of Queensbury, her five grandchildren Catherine Winslow of Orlando Fla., Danielle Winslow, Brittany Winslow, Jake Savin and Alex Savin all of Queensbury, N.Y. She also leaves behind her sister Gail Schaumloffel and her husband John of Castleton, VT, two nephews, John and Bill Schaumloffel , several cousins and many dear friends including Fred and Lois Zilm of Luzerne and Don and Mickey Fearman of Hilton Head, South Carolina.
At Jan's request, no wake will be held. The family will intern her ashes at a later date in a private service.
The family would like to thank Dr. William Borgos for his care over the years, the staff at the CR Wood Cancer Center, especially Jean Van Auken, the OR staff at both Syosset and Glens Falls Hospitals, and the Surrey Field Community for their tremendous support.
