QUEENSBURY --- Joan "Joannie" Goodsell passed away unexpectedly, March 14, 2017, at her home in Queensbury. Joannie was born November 27, 1943, in Glens Falls to Viola (Batchelder) Wills and Fred R. Wills.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother-in-law, Earl Davis. Joannie is survived by her husband, Donald Goodsell. They were married in 1975. She is also survived by her sister Lorraine (Wills) Davis of Queensbury; niece, Donna (Davis) Barden of Glens Falls; great niece, Cassandra Barden of Lake George; nephew, Denny Davis of Queensbury; and great nephew, Cody Davis of Queensbury.
Since the age of three, Joannie rode and showed horses. She and Donnie built Skippa Bar Farm where they raised and showed well known Palomino Supreme Quarter horses and Quarter Horse Champions including two Palomino World Champions. They owned and operated Farmhouse Antiques on Route 149, in Fort Ann.
Joannie loved and cared for wild animals over the years. She and their Shetland Collie, Miss Molly, raised five baby snowshoe bunnies. The Post Star had an article about them during this time, and the picture is hanging at the Glens Falls Animal Hospital. Her Special love for all animals, including the care and devotion for them, was truly rewarding to watch.
Joannie taught riding nd showmanship lessons at Skippa Bar Farm for children and young adults. The Skippa Bar Farm Youth Show Team won many top awards at every show. She and Donnie were proud of all the team members over the years, especially their great niece Cassie Barden.
Being a true showman, Joannie had respect for, and from, all her peers throughout the United States. She was a member of the Palomino Horse Show Judge, a member of the Palomino Horse Association, and the Quarter Horse Association. Joannie was recently inducted into the New York State Palomino Horse Hall of Fame. She showed at the AQHA Congress, state fairs, and horse shows throughout the United States. Joannie won a tremendous amount of awards. Every room in their home is full of trophies, ribbons, numerous Grand Champion Awards, and Champion awards which are proudly displayed.
Joannie was a woman of never ending devotion to her family, friends, and all the animals she cared for. As Joannie would say, "Happy Trails to you until we meet again."
There will be no calling hours and burial will be private.
