Obituary

SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Joan E. Ramsey, 78, of Leland Street, South Glens Falls, passed away January 6, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on Feb. 15, 1938 in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Eleanor (Daly) Quackenbush.

Joan married Ernest Ramsey on May 16, 1976 and were married for 17 devoted years until his untimely passing on January 9, 1994.

Joan was also predeceased by two brothers, John Daly, and Charles Quackenbush; and three sisters, Mary Quackenbush, Margaret Bristol, and Marion Hopkins; and a son, Michael Ramsey.

She leaves behind her children, Kenneth Barrett and his wife, Lynda, of Bremerton Washington, Louis Barrett and his spouse, Kyle, of Warrensburg, Eleanor LaFreniere and her husband, Ted, of Glens Falls, Tina Tolle and her husband, Don, of Redmond Oregon, Ernest Ramsey and his significant other, Dorothy, of Lake George, and three step sons Leon Ramsey of Day, Terry Hopkins and his wife, Kelly, of South Glens Falls, and Fredrick Hopkins and his wife, Mary, of Corinth

She also is survived by four sisters, Agnes Linehan of Fort Edward, her twin sister, Jean Gordon of Hudson Falls, Michelle Breault of Gansevoort, and a sister-in-law, Carol Daly, of Queensbury, and one brother, Richard Stockdale of Glens Falls,

She also leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

Joan loved spending time with her granddaughter, Christy Mahoney, who was her main care giver, and Christy's children who did not look at her as great gramma or great-great gramma to them she was always Gramma Joan.

Joan loved going to bingo with her sister and also her dear friend who was more like a sister, Dorothy Barrett, and many many other friends.

She also loved to teach her grandchildren to cook and enjoyed cooking for others. She always liked to make sure others had a meal, or a place to go. She was always willing to help who ever, even if that meant she went without.

She had many stories and wise words that she shared with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 10, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street Queensbury. A funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with Deacon Bill Bazinet, officiating. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Road Queensbury.

Joan has very special pallbearer's, Jason Smith (grandson), Joshua Pultorak (great grandson), Michael Pultorak (great grandson), Michael Kingsley (grandson), Ted LaFreniere (son in-law), Richard Hermance (longtime friend).

A very special thank you to the nurses at the Glens Falls Hospital on T6 and T3, and the nutrition department for all they had done for her and the family.
