PALM BAY, FLA. --- Johanna "Josie" Lee (Mallaney) Smith, of Palm Bay, Florida, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness.
Born June 5, 1941, she was the daughter of Raymond G. and Myrtle May (Hamblin) Mallaney.
Josie's most rewarding accomplishment, aside from being a wonderful and much loved wife and mother, is the legacy she leaves in the form of the genealogical histories of the Mallaney/Hamblin and Smith/Chadwick families. She documented over 9000 family members and ancestors during her 40 years of genealogical work and was a member of several Genealogical societies in New England and New York. Her work will be added to the files of the Mormon Church of the Latter Day Saints where everyone will have free access to her work. Josie also contributed to findagrave.com where she managed over 900 family memorials. Josie also enjoyed traveling with the Wally Byam Caravan Club International.
Josie was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Elaine Mallaney Perry.
Josie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Victor Lee Smith of Palm Bay, Fla.; son, Gregory Lee Smith of Midlothian, VA, daughter, Lora Lee Smith Garcia of Tampa, Fla., and son, Patrick Lee Smith and his wife, Pamela Marie Cople Smith, of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Marion (Mallaney) Smith of Palm Bay, Fla., and Margaret (Mallaney) Baker-Chmura of Moosup, Conn.; and niece, Mari Lynn (Perry) Welch of Spotsylvania, VA. She also leaves five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, August 21, at 1 p.m. at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock St., Palm Bay, Fla.
A graveside service will take place Monday, August 26 at 11 a.m. at Bay St. Cemetery, Glens Falls, with the Rev. Scott Harding officiating.
