Obituary

GLENS FALLS -- John Joseph Dwyer, age 84 of Queensbury, NY, passed away on March 13, 2016 at The Pines at Glens Falls Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, Glens Falls, NY.

He was born on February 1, 1932 in Queens, NY to the late John J. and Grace (Treanor) Dwyer. After earning a Bachelor's degree from St. John's College, a division of St. John's University, he embarked on a thirty-six year career with The Continental Insurance Companies, retiring as a Vice President.

Shortly after his retirement, John's beloved wife Joan "Tina" La Mar Dwyer passed away. He devoted himself to raising their two young sons, yet still found time to put his superb organizational and leadership skills to work for others.

He became a member, and later president, of the Queensbury Union Free School Board. His volunteer activities spanned the Queensbury Dollars for Scholars program, the Adirondack Soccer Club, the St. Bernard's Institute of Rochester NY, The Queensbury Senior Citizens Inc., and the Glens Falls Rotary Club.

Survivors include John's five children, Kathleen Smith of Spring Branch, Texas, Jim Dwyer of Grand Cayman Island, BWI, Maureen Maher of Sebastien, Florida and Chris and Dan Dwyer both of Queensbury. He also leaves three grandchildren, Hunter, Cullen and Shannon Smith of Spring Branch, Texas and a great grandson, Laiken .

John is also survived by his former wife, Dolores Dwyer, sister-in-law, Theresa Dwyer, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, John was pre-deceased by his brother, Donald.

To those that loved him, John was in a class by himself. With a stubborn streak that was renowned but rarely misused, he could also be eternally patient. He was incredibly kind, generous with both his time and his resources. If order needed to be created in any environment, he was the man to do it.

He will long be lovingly remembered by friends and family, and missed by Bella and Sal, his constant four-footed companions.

Friends may call upon the family on Friday, March 18 from 1-3 and 5-7 pm at the Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 pm on Saturday, March 19, at Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, Aviation Road, Queensbury, NY.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to The Pines at Glens Falls Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, The Glen at Hiland Meadows, and Greater Adirondack Home Aides.

Memorial donations in loving memory of John may be made to Queensbury Senior Citizens Inc., 742 Bay Road, Queensbury, NY 12804 or Dollars for Scholars C/O Queensbury High School Guidance Office, 431 Aviation Road, Queensbury NY 12804.
