Obituary

QUEENSBURY - John "Jack" F. Flower, Jr. passed away comfortably at home on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, after a two-year battle with cancer, with his daughter Diane by his side.

Jack was the eldest son of John F. Flower and Josephine Merrill Flower, born on March 21, 1946.  Jack was predeceased by his older sister, Joan Aldous; younger brother, James Flower; and youngest sister, Janet Shearer.

The "Six J's" built their home on a hill above Lake Sunnyside.   Jack's younger years were filled with mischief and shenanigans around his beloved Lake Sunnyside, including days spent at Carpenter's Pavilion, Dream Lake and French Mountain.  The Flowers' love of Lake Sunnyside was passed on to the next two generations who cherished their times at the Lake with family and friends.   Jack's fondness of the Adirondacks began at a young age when he joined his father and brother on trips to Indian Lake to hunt and fish with the Hutchins family, whose children and grandchildren became family.

Jack graduated from Queensbury High School in 1964, where he played football.  After graduation Jack joined the US Navy and served on the USS New Jersey during the Vietnam War.  After completing his active service of 7 1/2 years, Jack continued in the Naval Reserve, until his retirement as a Chief Petty Officer in 1984.

Jack spent his career in the medical manufacturing industry working locally for CR Bard, Sheridan and Glaxo Smith Kline Corp.   As an adult, Jack earned his associate's degree in accounting from Adirondack Community College and bachelor's degree from SUNY Plattsburgh.

Throughout his life Jack believed in community service, serving as a volunteer firefighter with the Warrensburg Volunteer Fire Department, a Mason at the Warrensburg Lodge, a member of the Warrensburg VFW and a member of the Parker-Benton American Legion.

Jack married Linda Hanson Flower in 2016.  They built their retirement home in Indian Lake.   Jack and Linda lived in their treasured cabin in the woods until the summer of 2023 when they returned to Queensbury to be closer to family.

Jack is survived by his wife Linda and his five children who he was rumored to be very proud of:  Kristine Flower (Adam Root) - the "good one", Jolene Flower (Rick Bruce) "Gert" - the "nice one", Matthew Flower (Lisa Flower) - the "favored son",  Diane Ianazzi (Dean Ianazzi) - the "pain in the ass" and Sarah Flower - the "smart one".  He is also survived by his adored grandchildren: Hayley Flower, Jamie Kelly, Angela Ianazzi, Braden Ianazzi, Donovan Ianazzi, Charlotte Doyle, Camille Doyle, Jessica Bruce and Rick Bruce.   Jack is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Aldous and Michael Shearer; several nieces and nephews and his wife's siblings and their families.

Per Jack's wishes there will be no calling hours.

A graveside ceremony with military honors will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871.
