QUEENSBURY -- John Salvador, Jr., a longtime resident of North Queensbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Glens Falls Center after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
John was born April 23, 1933 in Schenectady, NY to John and Katie (Ferrone) Salvador
In 1952 John graduated with honors from Mount Pleasant Technical High School, where he played football and was President of the senior class. He went on to Lafayette College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, played football and completed ROTC training. In 1959, after three years of evening studies, John received his Master's Degree in civil engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
John married his high school sweetheart Kathleen Audrey (Osan) on June 9, 1956. On August 15, 1961 they were blessed with the arrival of their son, John Michael.
On June 29, 1956, he joined Esso Research and Engineering in Linden, New Jersey. After a brief tour of duty with the United States Army John and Kathy began an extraordinary journey to Norway, Germany, Italy, France Lebanon, Holland and Tanzania, where John's engineering skills were instrumental in the construction of many advanced oil refineries and petrochemical plants. He retired from Esso in September 1972, returning to his Schenectady roots.
In 1973, John and Kathy purchased Dunham's Bay Lodge on Lake George which they modernized and ran until it's sale in 2001. Their other business, Dunham's Bay Boat & Beach Club is still being operated by their son, John Michael.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen; and his brother, Ronald.
John is survived by his son, John Michael and wife Kay; his companion, Jean; and Kathy's step-sister, Carmeen Kolpack and husband, Fred. Also surviving him are his niece, Lori and her children; and numerous other relatives and friends.
At John's request, there will be no calling hours or services.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff at the Glens Falls Center.
It was John's wish that all memorials be sent to the John Salvador, Jr. Scholarship Fund at Lafayette College, 730 High Street, Easton, PA 18042.
