John H.
Neve
Nov 10, 1949 — Mar 31, 2024
QUEENSBURY --- John Harold Neve, 74, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Sunday, March 31, 2024, after a long and courageous battle.
Born November 10, 1949, in Tarrytown, N.Y., he was the son of Harold F. and Marie Claire (Gendron) Neve.
John graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School, Tarrytown, N.Y. in 1968 and moved to Putnam Station where he began his career as a construction laborer. John joined the Laborer's International Union of North America in 1969, and was a proud Union member for 55 years. John also attended Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine Farrier Program and became a well known and loved Farrier for many years in Putnam/Ticonderoga and surrounding areas.
John met the love of his life, Garnet (Mayes) when they both worked for C. D. Perry & Sons, Inc. in Troy. On July 2, 2000, when they married, they were both working on the Boston "Big Dig" Project aka the Central Artery/Tunnel Project. John transferred to LIUNA Local #223 Boston and made many dear friends in his short time there. Family members' failing health caused their return to New York where Garnet returned to work out of the IUOE Local #106 (now known as the Local #158, District 106) and John began working for Precast Co. Unistress, Pittsfield, M.A. until his retirement in 2007, after the loss of his leg.
After retirement, John found great enjoyment spending time with his grandson, Christopher, often taking him to and from school, and to many different playgrounds in the area where Christopher helped keep him "young at heart" for many many years.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his grandparents.
Those left to cherish his memory are his treasured wife of 24 years, Garnet Neve of Queensbury; two daughters, Vallen Mayes and her husband, Ray Sheppard of South Glens Falls and Karen Neve of Putnam Station; a grandson, Christopher Roselle of South Glens Falls; his sister, Clairemarie Coto and her husband, John, as well as their son, Kevin Coto, all of Hudson Falls; and his beloved cats, Buddy and Bella.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to High Peaks Hospice nurses Lisa Bolton and Patty Romanko without whose care in recent days and weeks and also in April/May of 2023, we would not have been blessed with another year with our loved one. Garnet wishes to thank Tracee Carson in their office whose kindness and compassion helped her through many a phone call crisis - bless all of you.
The family also wishes to thank Dr Robert Desiderio and treating RN Pamela Barlow of The Center for Wound Healing at Glens Falls Hospital.
Many thanks to Sean Campanie, NP of Homeward Bound and Palliative Care, without whose help and support John would not have been able to complete his transition/journey in the comfort of his own home. A special thanks to our daughter for arranging dear friends Amber Delaney and Valerie Guy to help John in his final months.
In loving memory of John contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, DONATE .
Condolences and floral arrangements may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
