QUEENSBURY --- John N. Rutledge, 67, of Revere Rd., Queensbury, was taken into the arms of the Lord Wednesday morning, July 25, 2012 from Glens Falls Hospital.
Born January 16, 1945 in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Orrin and Gladys (Brown) Rutledge.
John was raised in Scotia, NY. He graduated from Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, Class of 1963, and later earned his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of Vermont.
John was commissioned in the United States Army from ROTC on March 16, 1968 as a Second Lieutenant, and served two years active duty as an officer in Germany with the Third Armor Division. He joined the Reserves in the fall of 1970, retiring as a Colonel after 26 years of dedicated service.
In 1974, he married Dianne S. DiCesare in Schenectady.
As a finance and accounting manager, John worked for General Electric for 43 years in various locations around eastern New York, retiring in 2009.
He was an active member of Queensbury United Methodist Church for many years, as well as a member of the Elfin Society at General Electric, and the American Tree Farm Association. John was an Eagle Scout, Boy Scout leader, Adirondack Youth Hockey coach, Queensbury Little League baseball coach, and a Youth Ice Hockey referee for 20 years.
Some of his hobbies included mountain climbing, becoming an Adirondack Forty-Sixer where he served as Correspondent and member of the Executive Board, gardening, forestry, and photography.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, O. Clark Rutledge.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Dianne Rutledge of Queensbury; three children, J. Daniel (Aimee) Rutledge of Saratoga, Derek M. Rutledge of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Debra A. Rutledge of Troy; a brother, William Bradford Rutledge of Steamboat Springs Colorado; former sister-in-law, Madelaine Rutledge of Franklin, Tenn.; brothers-in-law, Patrick M. DiCesare (Dianne) of Burnt Hills, and Carl DiCesare (Kathi) of Scotia; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Friends may call upon the family Wednesday, August 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
A funeral and burial, with military honors at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.
