Obituary

Joyce Elizabeth Jones, 93, of Dunedin, FL, formerly of Main Street, Queensbury, passed away Thursday April 1, 2021, at Angels Senior Living in Dunedin, FL, after living a wonderful and beautiful life.

Born November 23, 1927, in Glens Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Curtis and Vivian (Garrow) Lampson.

Joyce grew up during a simpler time that defined the person she was to become, loving, caring, smart, and strong. After graduating from Glens Falls High School, Class of 1945, Joyce went to work for The Glens Falls Insurance Company as a secretary in 1948. While out with friends at a local dance, she met Earl Jones. Joyce was a hard shell to crack and initially dismissed Earl as a flirt, a former Marine out on the town with his old war buddies in Glens Falls. As story has it, Earl had been so smitten with Joyce that he followed her and her friends home after the dance, having slept outside on her porch so he could see Joyce the next day... and try again to put his best foot forward. Her father found him in the morning and had a bit of a "conversation" with Earl... contents unknown. Joyce was suddenly interested in this guy who would go to that length to meet her... it worked. Joyce gave in, and after a year of courtship, they were married at St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls on December 11, 1949, spending 57 loving years with Earl by her side until his passing in 2006. To those that knew them, their connection was amazing and always entertaining as Joyce would continually provide Earl with a hilarious opportunity to throw in a one liner that only the two of them could create... it was classic Joyce and Earl.

Joyce was a wonderful and loving person to anyone that came into her life, she would take anyone in and share her gift of love and concern for others. Together with Earl she raised two children, Nancy and Matt. She was the best mother a child could ever hope for. Early on she was a stay-at-home mom, but her ambition and zest for life and learning took her along a path of several careers. She earned her Nursing degree in 1964 and followed her passion to help people as her children were growing up. She also tapped into her entrepreneurial spirit and became the regional franchisee for what was then Holiday Magic cosmetics, becoming an advisory director in 1968. Joyce re-entered her nursing career in 1972 and was employed at various assisted living facilities in the area, until 1977 when she decided to follow her passion to help people. Re-entering college to study clinical therapy, earning her Masters of Arts Degree in clinical psychology at age 66, from Norwich University, in 1993. For the next 22 years, Joyce was in private practice, with emphasis on Family and Adolescent counseling. Additionally, she provided professional counsel for Warren County, NY Family Court, having retired in 2015. Joyce spent her later years with family, friends and her beloved dog "Remo" by her side. She became a regular figure walking Remo on Main St... actually, Remo walked her. Joyce was always ready to delve into other's problems and help any way she could. She had a unique gift of seeing people as they are and quickly offered counsel and direction to those who needed it most. One of her more unique roles was being a band mother to "High Street' in 1982, when her son's band moved to New York from California. She and Earl opened their home up to 4 boys they never met, but she came to love all of her boys... Jeff Clarke, Tyler Souther, Gene Cavazos and Mike Parker. Can you imagine the electricity in that house? She also opened her home continuously through the years to her children's friends, always there as a Mom, an ear, and an oasis... especially her adopted son, Buck Maille, she loved him as her own.

She was a former Republican committeewoman for Queensbury Ward 4, guest speaker for Every Woman's Counsel, and wrote a book on Family and Adolescent issues.
