Joyce Ann
St. Hilaire
Dec 26, 1935 — Nov 23, 2023
SARATOGA SPRINGS --- Joyce Ann St. Hilaire, 88 passed away peacefully on November 23, 2023, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. at the Home of the Good Shepard, under the care of Community Hospice, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Burlington, Vermont, on December 26, 1935, to Joseph Patrick Hartigan and Mary Ann (Hartigan) Paquette, and stepfather Oliver Ouellette, and was the youngest of four children.
Joyce was a devoted daughter, a loving sister, and a loving and supportive wife. The kindest and most caring mother to her four children, the most fun and loving grandmother and great grandmother, special aunt to many nieces and nephews and friend to so many. She was the peacemaker of the family and leaves a legacy of love, kindness, feisty personality, good humor, and generosity that lives on through her family, friends, and community.
Joyce was married to Yvon Alfred St. Hilaire on January 1, 1955, and had four children, Gary, James, Donna and Lisa. Throughout their marriage they lived in; Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Nogales, Arizona; Burlington and Canaan, Vermont; Rouses Point, N.Y. and North Fort Myers, Florida. While living in Florida they enjoyed being a part of the Lake Arrowhead Park community where Joyce was a very active member in her community. She volunteered to organize holiday events, and many social events throughout the years in North Fort Myers, Florida. Yearly, she spent the summers with her husbands at her home on Lake Champlain in Alburgh, Vermont, where family and friends were always welcomed to vacation and visit with them. Camp was always a special place to Joyce, her children, as well as her grandchildren. They all looked forward to spending summers together, with bonfires, playing cards, and a lot of eating; Joyce loved feeding everyone.
In 1963, while living in Arizona, Joyce was an extra in the John Wayne movie "McLintock", of which she was very proud. Joyce began working at Ayerst Laboratories in Rouses Point, N.Y. in 1970, and retiring after 10 years. Family always came first, and Joyce was proud of her Irish heritage, researching centuries of her family genealogy. A few of her passions included singing, dancing, knitting and of course cooking. Her husband Yvon of 45 years passed away on February 3, 2000.
On July 13, 2002, she married Leonard Eduard Manor of Mooers, N.Y. She and Leonard lived in the Lake Arrowhead community in North Fort Myers, Florida. Yearly they vacationed on Singer Island and Marco Island in Florida with their children and grandchildren. They were very devoted to each other and enjoyed dinners and musicals at the Barbara Mann theater each year with their season pass. Leonard Manor passed away on May 1, 2023.
Joyce is survived by her daughter-in-law, Susan St. Hilaire, and her children Erin and Bryan; son, James St. Hilaire, his wife, Donna Ellen, and their daughter, Heather; daughter, Donna Sue St. Hilaire, her husband, Larry Smith, and their children, Hilairy, Brian, Nate, and Jess; daughter, Lisa Steadman, her husband, Brian, and their children, Eric, Kaley, Corey, and Amy; several great grandchildren; stepchildren Dennis and Carolyn Manor and their children, Robbie, Phil, and Laura; Karen and Tom Manor Metzold, and their children, Evan, and Edmond; and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Ann Hartigan; husbands, Yvon and Leonard; son Gary; sister Ruth Mongiello; brothers, Earl and Francis Hartigan; and many other loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A funeral mass/memorial service will be announced next spring for family and friends at the shrine in Isle La Motte, Vermont. The burial will be private for the family.
The family would like to recognize the incredible staff at Home of the Good Shepherd (the memory care unit), who treated her like family in every aspect of her care. They would also like to acknowledge the professionals of Saratoga Community Hospice for their quality care.
