STONY CREEK--- June Iva Maxam, 86, of Warrensburg Rd. passed away peacefully Wednesday Oct. 30, 2013 with her loving family by her side after a chronic battle with crystallized gout. She was also a 7 year cancer survivor.
Born May 22, 1927 in Athol she was the daughter of the late James H. and Julia (Beadnell) Mosher. Iva graduated from Warrensburg Central School in 1945. She earned her Registered Nursing Degree from Ellis Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and then began her career as an Operating Room Nurse at Ellis Hospital later transferring to the Operating Room at Glens Falls Hospital.
In 1950, Iva married John Maxam and they lived in Louisiana during his military training where she worked at the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana. From 1953 to 1957 she was in charge of Nursing Services at the office of Dr. R. L. Rhodes in Glens Falls. For three years beginning in 1964, Iva spent her nights at Adirondack Regional Hospital in Corinth. In 1970, she became Supervisor of Nursing at Pleasant Valley Infirmary in Argyle NY. In 1972, she went back to Glens Falls Hospital to continue her career in nursing. Iva then became an Industrial Nurse for General Electric, Decora, and International Paper before her retirement starting in 2005.
Iva was an integral member of her family and community, holding a membership with the Korean War Veterans Association Auxiliary, and being Den Mother for her son's Cub Scouts and acting as Assistant 4-H Leader. She also enjoyed vacationing at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire with her family where she was always found watching the sunrise over the ocean.
In addition to her parents, Iva was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Bernice Maxam, a brother, Earl Mosher, and an infant brother, Rodney Mosher.
Survivors include her husband of 63 loving years, John "Jack" Maxam of Stony Creek; her son Kevin Maxam and his wife Penny, of Queensbury; four grandchildren: Kelli Barry and her husband, Gerry, of East Greenbush, Kristin Appleby and her husband, Russ, of Buffalo, Mike Maxam and Carolyn Stein of Queensbury, and Devin Maxam of Queensbury; four great-grandchildren, Erin, Megan, Karter, and Preston; one sister Ramona Thomas of Stony Creek, one brother James Mosher and his wife, Dorothy, of Thurman; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends, including dearest friends Dale and Glenna Aldrich.
Calling hours will be held Monday Nov. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Nancy Barrow pastor of Warrensburg Free Methodist Church officiating.
