Obituary

QUEENSBURY --- Karen Dawn DuRoss, 76, of Queensbury, died Tuesday, May 6, 2025, after a brief illness.

Karen was born Jan. 2, 1949, in Glens Falls. She graduated from South Glens Falls High School. She was a secretary, a homemaker and worked at Sears and Hannaford until her retirement.

She was an artist and won awards for her cross stitch. She also loved horses and quilting, watching sports and caring for the homeless cats in her neighborhood. Her lasagna was the best!

Karen married Vonley DuRoss on Dec. 16, 1972. They lived for many years on Lake Nebo Road in Fort Ann before moving to Argyle and then Queensbury.

She was predeceased by her parents, Leslie and Helen Wood; her brother, Larry Wood; and nephew, Michael Wood.

Survivors include her husband, Vonley DuRoss of Queensbury; three children, Stella (Adam) DuPree, of Corning, and Dawn Vantassell and Leslie DuRoss, both of Queensbury; four grandchildren, Nathaniel Vantassell of Queensbury, Patrick DuPree of Los Angeles, and Kelly DuPree and Kendyll DuPree, both of Corning; her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Wood of California; two nieces, Christine Wood and Kelley Wood-Clark, both of California; and her two cats, Angel and Jewel.

Per Karen's request, services will be private at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it was Karen's wish that donations be made in her memory to High Peaks Hospice Inc.

Arrangements are with Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

The family would like to thank the Hospice nurses and volunteers for their care and support.
