QUEENSBURY --- Kathleen A. Salvador, 81, of North Queensbury on Lake George passed peacefully on February 12, 2016 after a decade long conflict with a Parkinson's-Dementia Disorder.
She passed into eternal life while in residency at The Stanton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with her small but caring family at her side for comfort.
Kathleen was born in Schenectady on July 10, 1934 the only child to George C. and Anna (Cervenca) Osan.
During her teens a banquet was held at the Schenectady Masonic Lodge in April 1950 at which time Kathleen was inaugurated as Beloved Queen of the Onistagrawa Triangle, Daughters of the Eastern Star. This followed her having served several times as one of the organization's junior officers.
On June 20, 1952 Kathleen graduated from the former Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady. She earned a Regents Diploma with honors in Secretarial Science.
Four years of employment as a Technical Secretary with GE's Large Steam Turbine-Generator Division followed her formal education after which she married John Salvador, her high school "beau" on June 9, 1956 following his graduation from engineering college.
Kathleen continued her professional secretarial career during her early years of marriage while her husband advanced a career with Esso Engineering completing advanced studies as well as serving a stint with the U.S. Army.
During that time her advancement to that of confidential secretary to the Boy Scouts of America's Director of Finance lasted a mere two years before she was called to accompany her husband on what was the beginning of his 14 year tour centered on technical services for the world-wide family of Esso affiliated companies.
Assignments took her with her young family to foreign locations in Norway; Karlsruhe; West Germany when the Berlin wall was first going UP!; Northern Italy; Southern France; Rome; Lebanon and the middle east; Frankfort; Holland and Cologne in 1972 after which she and her family agreed the time had come to return home with intent on "settling down".
It was not long before Kathleen took notice, on Christmas Day 1972, of a sleepy, not so little, resort located on Lake George's Dunham Bay. By the end of February '73 she and her husband became the sole proprietors of that resort – the Dunham's Bay Lodge.
Thus began a new walk of life for Kathleen – from homemaker to small business entrepreneur that was to last for 28 years and beyond. Together with her husband their teamwork and energies as "Mom" on the inside and "Pop" on the outside were devoted to bringing newfound notoriety to the Dunham's Bay Lodge as a full service resort and banquet facility.
Not satisfied with the success of the resort development, Kathleen partnered with her husband in 1996 and organized and developed their 1200ft. of lakefront into what became the Dunham's Bay Boat & Beach Club. Her legacy of the "Boat & Beach Club" will be carried forward by their son, John Michael.
Kathleen also found time to accept appointment as a Director of the Lake George Historical Society as a civic volunteer for several years.
Throughout their successful life together Kathleen and John set a standard for the complimentary efforts of husband and wife in the everyday world.
Her motto was "A place for everything – Everything in its place!"
Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, George C. and Anna Osan; a Stepmother, Janet (Fleres) Osan; and a brother-in-law, Ronald J. Salvador.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of nearly 60 years, John Salvador, Jr. also of North Queensbury on Lake George; her son John Michael Salvador and his wife, Kay, of Lake George; a sister-in-law Dorothea Salvador of Schenectady; a step-sister Carmeen (Fred) Kolpack of Rotterdam, N.Y.; a foster aunt Lucy (Vito) Spinelli of Glenville, N.Y.; and cousins, Ellie (Ron) Ellis of Charlton, N.Y. and Louise Monarch of Schenectady, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her family and friends wish to thank all those caregivers who became a part of her life the past four years and four months she has spent at "The Stanton" for their never ending love and tender care and most of all their expressions of compassion. She is sure to be fondly remembered by all who have been touched by her wonderful life.
At the family's request, the funeral services will be private. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to the Kathleen A. Salvador Scholarship Fund at Lafayette College, 730 High St., Easton, PA 18042 or the charity of one's choice.
Condolences may be mailed to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804 or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
