NORTH CREEK – Keith L. Allen, 87, of Lane Road, North Creek, passed away Saturday morning, December 20, 2014 at his home with his loving family by his side.
Born June 25, 1927 in Barman District of Johnsburg, he was the son of the late George H. and Cora M. (Millington) Allen.
Keith gained his education from a one room schoolhouse in Sodom, and later from North Creek High School.
On January 27, 1947, he married Grace Wescott at the same church they met at, Bakers Mills Wesleyan Methodist Church.
For 37 ½ years, Keith was a faithful employee at National Lead, now known as NL Industries in Tahawus, working as a millwright, rod mill operator, and assistant shift foreman retiring in 1989.
Early on, he was an assistant Boy Scout Master and also volunteered delivering food for the gleaning program.
Through the years, Keith's favorite pastimes were making maple syrup, tending to his garden, especially taking pride in his gladiola's, and playing Domino's and cards with his family and friends. He enjoyed family gatherings and reunions, and conversing with not only friends and family but had the gift to strike up a conversation with strangers as well, adding a special touch to everyone's day.
Besides his parents, Keith was predeceased by his one sister, Mary Robbins, his five brothers, Francis, Harold, Arnold, Lester, and Gerald Allen including all of their spouses.
Survivors, including his devoted wife of almost 68 years, Grace Allen of North Creek; two daughters, Sharon Simmes of Rotterdam, and Sherry Davison and her husband, Steve, of Wevertown; three sons, Sterling Allen and his wife, Lois, of North Creek, Stacey Allen and his wife, Holly, of Esperance, and Shawn Allen and his wife, Helen, also of North Creek; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, George Allen and his wife, Harriet of Bakers Mills, and Joseph Lee Allen and his wife, Daisy of Johnsburg; one sister-in-law, Pansy Allen of North Creek; also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 26, from 10 a.m. to noon at Sodom Community Church, Sodom Cross Road, Johnsburg.
Funeral services will immediately follow, at the church, at noon with Keith's nephew, the Rev. Ronald Allen, Pastor, officiating.
Burial will take place at Bates Cemetery, Goodman Road, Johnsburg, following the funeral service.
Family and friends are invited back to the Sodom Community Church for a gathering of food and fellowship.
