Obituary

HUDSON FALLS - Laura E. (Atkinson) Sweet, born Jan. 17, 1922 the daughter of Ernest and Edith (Bradway) Atkinson, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at the age of 90 with her family near by.
At 90 years old, Laura still had a small garden with yellow beans, tomatoes, and zucchini. She also canned many quarts of tomatoes. At Christmas time, she would make quick breads, fudge, and no bake cookies for everyone in the family.
Playing board games such as Yahtzee, Scrabble, and Rack Rummy were enjoying to Laura. She also liked jigsaw puzzles, usually hiding the last piece to put in herself.
In addition to her parents, Laura was predeceased by her husband, Sidney William Sweet, her daughter, Elaine Bailey, two grandsons, Michael Wolfe and Jerald Simon, and her great-grandson, Jacob Wolfe, her sister, Shirley, and her brothers, Ernest and Malcolm.
Survivors include her companion, Henry Russell; her 5 children, Sandra "Sandy" Ely and her husband, Wayne, Fredrick "Fred" Sweet and his wife, Marguerite "Maggie", Sharlet Elms and her husband, Charlie, Juanita "Dee Dee" Fish and her husband, Owen, and Kim Elms and her companion, Mike; her son-in-law, Keith Elms; Laura also had 25 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren with one on the way, 14 great-great-grandchildren with three on the way; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was extremely proud of her many generations!
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hartford Fish & Game Club, Route 196.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in loving memory of Laura, to American Cancer Society, 959 Route 9, Mount Royal Plaza, Queensbury, NY 12804.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at C. R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital for their wonderful kindness and helpfulness. Also, a special thank you to all the staff at Fort Hudson Health System in Fort Edward for helping Laura live her last days in comfort and dignity. Also thanks to friend and pastor, Sandra Spalding.
