QUEENSBURY --- Lawrence "Shorty" D. Havens, 73, formerly of Pattens Mills Rd., passed away Friday, April 3, 2015 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

Born April 20, 1941 in Fort Edward, he was the son of the late Delbert "Pa" and Isabelle (MacDonald) Havens.

He enjoyed boating, camping, water-skiing, motocross, and four-wheeling with his family and friends. He was the life of the party while dancing to his favorite country music. He also enjoyed his time in Fanning Springs, Florida and attending the Fanning Springs Community Church.

Shorty was a master carpenter who built houses, condos, and did many projects all over the east.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 50 years, Shirley Havens; six children, Kathy (Bernie) Rich of Queensbury, Sherry (Paul) Garlick also of Queensbury, Rose (Jerry) Axmacher of South Carolina, Michele (Gregg) Wood of Fort Ann, and Larry "Bo" Havens (Shari Piskothy) of South Glens Falls; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janet (Larry) Sutliff of Hudson Falls, and Evelyn Baker of Glens Falls; a brother, Wayne (Sherry) Havens of Hudson Falls; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will take place Wednesday, April 8, from noon to 1 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Brett Seals, pastor of Living Waters Church of God in Wilton.
