Lawrence "Larry"
G. Potter
Aug 10, 1936 — Jun 17, 2024
QUEENSBURY-- Lawrence "Larry" Potter passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Albany Medical Center. Born on August 10, 1936 in Glens Falls, N.Y., Larry was the son of the late F. Crannell and Hazel Potter. Larry grew up in Glens Falls, graduating from Glens Falls High School in 1954. He continued his education at SUNY Cobleskill, graduating with an Accounting Degree. This foundation propelled him into a 34-year career with the Shell Oil Company. Larry had a successful career with Shell, enjoying his long-term assignments in Connecticut, New Jersey, Georgia and final transfer to Houston, Texas. Upon retirement Larry relocated back to his hometown of Glens Falls, which he greatly missed.
Larry was a class act; modest, intelligent, and self-effacing. He didn't take things too seriously and could laugh at himself. There was no mistaking him, with his full head of white hair, mustache, the Panama type hat, and shades.
He was an avid early morning "mall walker" at Aviation Mall, arriving before the stores opened.
Larry had a special relationship with his niece, Kim and her children, Brady and Lindsey. He followed Brady's and Lindsey's high school sports, attending many of their games. A longtime fan of Jazz music, he played drums in a band in high school that performed locally. There, he met Bill Perry (also in the band) and they have remained longtime friends. Also in his retirement, Larry very much enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sharing meals, and going on trips to Maine, Cape Cod, and Nova Scotia. He took pride in where he was from, following local sports as well as college sports. He was an avid Syracuse Basketball fan following the career of Joe Girard III.
Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew him!
Besides his parents, Larry was predeceased by both maternal and paternal grandparents, and many aunts and uncles and cousins. He is survived by: his younger brother, Ken; his sister-in-law, Cathy Potter; niece, Kim Deyette (John); great niece, Lindsey Deyette; great nephew, Brady Stark; and cousins Marsha Hallock Smink (Chris), Fairport N.Y., John Hallock, Albany N.Y., and Tracy Reichmuth (Chuck), Rochester N.Y.
