Obituary

GLENS FALLS-Lillian B. Powers, 99, of Stichman Towers, Glens Falls, passed away Friday night, February 27, 2015 at Westmount Health Facility in Queensbury.

Born February 3, 1916 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Alfred and Jennie (Thompson) Hamel.

She gained her education at the Broad Street School House in Glens Falls.

She married Edward A. Powers on June 6, 1934, and celebrated their wedding at The Coopers Cave under the South Glens Falls bridge.

Lillian was proud to be a homemaker while raising her children. She was a great seamstress who had the privilege to work out of her home for many years. Her pleasures in life included playing Bingo, eating chocolates of all kinds, playing the piano, the organ, and singing.

Because of a fear of flying, she never fulfilled her dream of going to Hawaii, however, her daughter Shirley convinced her to fly to Florida, which she raved about for years. Lillian never lost her zest for life, right up to her last days. She had a great sense of humor and a feisty wit that left a tremendous impact on the lives around her. Above all, her family was the most important thing to her. It brought her great pleasure to spend time with her family and friends no matter what the occasion. She will be greatly missed.

Besides her parents, Alfred Hamel and Jennie Hamel Morency, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward A. Powers, four brothers, Thomas, Jack, William, and Carl Hamel; and two sisters, Thelma and Sadie Hamel.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley West of Warrensburg; two sons, Edward Powers Hudson Falls and Garry Powers of Lake George; grandchildren, Laurie Brainard, Robert "Bobby" West, Susan West-Evans, Linda Trapasso and her husband, Mark, Judi West-Tanksley and her husband, Ronnie and EJ Powers; great grandchildren, Kristy, Ryan, Mallory, Bradley, Bobby Jr, Marisa, Mark, Alexa, Aja, Jaxon, Jaelyn, Jewel; great great-grandchildren, Marlee, Lyla, Emme, Ryleigh, Ivy, Jonathan, and her name sake, Lilliana; also a special daughter-in-law, Nancy Powers; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Friends may call upon the family Tues. March 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street, Queensbury.

A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Deacon David Powers of St. Mary's Church, Glens Falls, officiating, and music performed by her grandson, Mark and his partner, Kevin.

A graveside service will take place Wednesday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Westmount Health Facility and The Countryside Adult Home for their professional comfort and care.
