Obituary

Margaret Lucas passed away peacefully at Fort Hudson, 10 days shy of her 103rd birthday. Born on March 1, 1922 she was the first of 3 daughters born to Floyd and Katherine (Rabens) Lucas.

Margaret attended a 1 room schoolhouse in Queensbury, graduated from Glens Falls High in 1939, and later attended Skidmore College. She started working for GF Insurance Co but then spent the majority of her career as a legal secretary for McPhillips, Fitzgerald and Cullum Law Office. She loved to learn, and had a large collection of law books, along with history, geography and religion. She also donated to just about every charitable (and non-charitable) entity that asked for money, as she believed someone else could use it more than she could.

She was a very devoted member of the Oneida Church and documented their growth and renovations over the years. She volunteered for the Queensbury Historical Office and had great interest in all local history, and enjoyed going to museums. After retirement, she was very much a "home body" as she spent her entire life in the Jenkinsville house her parents bought just 1 month after she was born. That's where she spent many days with her best friend in the world, Patricia Wells. They were neighbors for decades, and would spend time in the gardens, sitting on the porch, and visiting all the best coffee shops. Pat made it a point to continue to visit her weekly for chats, laughs and quiet moments, for which Margaret was truly grateful.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her 2 sisters, Edith and Eleanore and their husbands (brothers John and Otis Bowman). She also lost family friend, David Brennan with whom she spent countless hours regaling with stories.

Her surviving family includes great niece and devoted caregiver, Aspen Forman; niece, Nancy Newbern; great nephew, Tristan Verra; niece, Amy Smith; great niece, Rosalie Smith and her 3 children.

Special thanks to Fort Hudson Nursing Home for her care when she could no longer live at home.

Donations can be given to Oneida Church in her honor, as the congregation stayed active in her life through the end.

A graveside memorial will be planned for spring.

Condolences may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
