GLENS FALLS --- Maria Saveria Scarpellino, 76, longtime resident of Glens Falls, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Granville Center.

Born Sept. 6, 1944 in Glens Falls Hospital, she was the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Julian) Scarpellino.

Maria graduated with the class of 1962 from Glens Falls High School. She then attended Adirondack Community College and Utica School of Commerce to study Secretarial Science.

She worked for the Wilton Developmental Center. Maria also served as an assistant in the book room in the Glens Falls City School System.

Some of her enjoyments included playing Bingo, following horse racing, singing, writing song parodies, crocheting, knitting, and watching football (Buffalo Bills) and baseball games. She was a Yankees fan. She was also a fan of Elvis.

Maria was a member of Glens Falls Senior Citizens and the Moreau Fun Band. With the band, Maria performed at nursing homes, parades and concerts.

In addition to her parents, Maria was predeceased by her companion of 43 years, Harold Hay; paternal grandparents, Guiseppi and Maria Milano Scarpellino; maternal grandparents, Frederick and Elizabeth Deignan Julian; brother and sister-in-law, Andrew John and Judy Scarpellino; an infant brother, Andrew Frederick Scarpellino; brother-in-law, Peter Snyder; nephew, Daniel Carlton; and her great-niece, Sophia Nelson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Elizabeth (Tom) Halpin of Essex Junction, VT, Patricia (Bruce) Carlton of Malta, NY, Louise (Bob) Bredice of Las Vegas, NV, and Connie Snyder and her life partner, Matthew Crowley of Essex Junction, VT; also several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved cats, Suzie and Baby.

Due to covid, a memorial service at Baker Funeral Home, 11 LaFayette St. Queensbury, NY 12804, followed by a graveside service at St. Alphonsus Cemetery, will be scheduled at a later date.

The family would like to thank the heroes at Granville Center for their many acts of kindness and compassionate care.
