Marie E.
Wynne-Roberts Hughes
May 20, 1927 — Jan 23, 2021
Updated Funeral Notice:
A graveside ceremony will take place on Friday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at Glens Falls Cemetery, with the Rev. Ken Applegate officiating.
Marie E. Wynne-Roberts Hughes, 93, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in Pittsfield, MA due to complications from COVID-19.
Born on May 20, 1927 to Robert Iorwerth Wynne-Roberts and Clara Marie (Davison) Wynne-Roberts, Marie lived most of her life in her much-loved Glens Falls, NY. She graduated from Glens Falls High School and then studied at Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, MA. After completing her studies in Boston, Marie worked at Skidmore College where she met her future husband, Rowland W. Hughes. Marie and Rowland were married on June 17, 1950 and were married 54 years before Rowland's passing in 2005.
Marie and Rowland's home was among the first to be built on Spruce Court in Queensbury. It was there that they raised their son, David, and where the family made many lasting memories. Marie loved her home where she would entertain, host Bridge Club, and, while her son was in high school, host an exchange student from Sweden.
For many years Marie worked in a local bank and volunteered at The First Presbyterian Church. She especially loved baking for their May Tea. She also loved caring for the many beloved
Shih-Tzu's she adopted over the years.
Marie is survived by her son, Rev. David Hughes (Deborah) and her grandchildren, Miranda Hughes and Adam (Dr. Baruch Whitehead) Hughes, and all of her special cousins in Canada and their families.
Marie's family sends their deepest appreciation to the staff of Springside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Pittsfield, MA for their wonderful, compassionate care of Marie over the past four-plus years.
A graveside service will be held for Marie in the Spring.
If desired, donations in Marie's name can be made to Shih Tzu and Furbaby Rescue, P.O. Box 5068, Saint Mary's, GA 31558, https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/shihtzusandfurbabies or The First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, 8 W. Notre Dame Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
Condolences may be mailed directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, N.Y. 12804 or online at www.bakerfuneralhome.com .
