Obituary

Saratoga Springs --- Mary Krumal Eddy died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Wesley community in Saratoga Springs. She was 104.

Mary was born on Nov. 1, 1913 to homesteaders Cyrill Krumal and Barbara (Otasik) Krumal in Acme, So. Dakota. When Mary was 3 she came east with her family by Conestoga wagon to Greenfield Center, New York, where she grew up on a farm.

She graduated from Saratoga High School in 1931 and in 1935 from Saratoga Hospital School of Nursing as an RN. Later she took a Post Graduate course at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Mary taught Red Cross nursing and First Aid and was a nurse at the Mount McGregor Hospital for the developmentally disabled for many years. She was past president of Saratoga County Nurses Association.

Mary was Matron and Past Matron of Eastern Star in Greenfield Center. She attended and served her community at Bethesda Episcopal Church in many ways, including as a volunteer in the thrift shop. She was also a member of the Wilton Heritage Society, and the Seniors' Club in Wilton. She was a member of Brookhaven Golf Club. Golf was a favorite past time and she continued to walk 9 holes several times a week, even into her 90's.  Most recently she occupied her time making nearly 40 baby quilts for African Children, working with Skidmore College to deliver them to children in need.

Mary is predeceased by her husband, Rex Eddy; brothers, Emil, James, Frank and Tony; and sister, Bessie.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Mary Longley and her partner, Michael Crayford of Queensbury, and a son, Charles Eddy, of New Britain, Conn.; her grandchildren, Bryan Eddy (Christina), and Michael (Shannon) Eddy, both of New Britain, Conn., a granddaughter, Suzanne Longley (Guy Gsell) of Bloomfield, N.J.; and six great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place Wednesday, January 31, at 11 a.m. at Bethesda Episcopal Church, 41 Washington St., Saratoga Springs, with The Very Rev. Marshall J. Vang officiating.

A graveside service will take place in the spring at Greenfield Cemetery.

A special thanks to the nursing staff on 3 Victoria at the Wesley Community. They were caring, professional and always very attentive to our mother's needs.
