Queensbury --- Mary Rose Gulizio, nee MacDonnell, passed away peacefully at The Stanton Nursing Home on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. She was 97 years old.

Mary grew up in New York City and worked in her late teens and early 20's as a hatcheck girl at The Roosevelt Hotel. Later in her life she worked in sales at Irvington House Shop on East 80 ^th Street in Manhattan, where she was always the top sales person. A major accomplishment in her life was her role as manager and treasurer of the Harlem apartment building in which she lived. Under her careful direction and management, the building was transformed from being barely livable to a beautiful, fully restored pre-war building.

Mary is predeceased by her mother, Maryann Tansey MacDonnell, her father, Alfred E. MacDonnell, her sister, Geraldine Shope, and her nephew, Randolph Shope.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Diane MacDonnell, her son in law, Dr. Paul Alagna, her grandson, Gabriel Alagna, her nieces, Maryann Shope and Suzanne Shope and her nephew, Christopher Shope.

A Mass of Remembrance will be offered Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at St Mary's Catholic Church.

Interment will be private at Pine View Cemetery.

The family offers special thanks to Mary's loving companions, Grace Andrusko, Shirley Tomlinson, Maureen Meyo and Ursula Chodorowsky who loved Mary and made her days bright. The family also offers graditude for the loving staff at the Stanton Nursing Home who cared for Mary and surrounded her with love, especially in her last days. Thanks to all, but particularly to her special angels, Siterra and Cheyenne.
