Obituary

ARGYLE --- On 28 September 2022, Mary Kathy Sokol (Cathy) took rest from these worldly cares and joined her cherished family and friends in heaven's glorious and eternal life.

Cathy was born in Schenectady, N.Y. on August 15, 1952, to George E. and Marilyn T. (Provost) Sokol. She moved with her family to West Berne, N.Y. when she was 10.

Cathy graduated with scholarship from Schoharie Central High School in 1970 and went on to attend college at Fulton-Montgomery in Johnstown, N.Y.

Cathy's love of animals brought her employment at the stables at Saratoga Racetrack, where she cared and traveled with two Kentucky Derby racers.  Cathy worked at a variety of occupations over the years until she medically retired.  She loved and attended St. Francis of Assisi in Albany, until she moved to Mountainview Commons in Granville, N.Y. where she made many new and cherished friends. There she attended St. Mary's Catholic Church.

To know Cathy was to know she loved her Lord and Savior, her friends, and family. She excelled in kindness, compassion, and giving to those who did not have much. She enjoyed music and playing the radio station game; often winning. Cathy lived a simple life, one time winning an expensive gift certificate to a furniture store which she happily gifted to a young girl who was trying to furnish her first apartment. This was Cathy; generous and giving of her time and assets. Through her struggles with cancer, she never complained; upbeat, happy, and loving to the best of her ability. Her life and memories by her family will always be treasured. We are stricken with sadness and grief as we say goodbye for now.

Cathy was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; mother, Marilyn T. Sokol; and nephew, Jason Sokol.

She is survived by her father, George Sokol (Elaine) of Hartford, N.Y.; sisters, Debra Sokol of Glencoe, AL, Cheryl Wood (Burke) of Warner Robins, GA, and Therese Firment (Steven) of Andes NY; brothers, Paul Sokol (Deb), of Hebron, NY, who provided constant aid and devotion, Kevin Sokol of Albany NY, Jim Sokol of Colorado Springs, CO, and David Sokol (Angela) of Orem, UT; 16 nieces and nephews; and 11 great nieces and nephews.

A Mass in Cathy's honor will be held in May 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 391 Delaware Ave., Albany, NY 12209. Time and date will be provided at a later time.  Friends and family will be greatly welcomed.

Cathy will be laid to rest at a private family burial in the Old Stone Fort, Schoharie, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Cathy's mother, Marilyn T. Sokol may be made to the National Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Dr., Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923, or by phone at 1-800-722-4673.
