Obituary

WARRENSBURG -- Mary E. (Matteson) Sprague, 85, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016 at Glens Falls Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Mary was born in Caldwell, NY to Earl and Jennie M. (Prosser) Matteson on March 5, 1931.

Mary began working at the Warrensburg Shirt Factory until it closed. She continued at the Troy Shirt Guild of Glens Falls until her retirement in 1969, where she became a Floor Supervisor after receiving a number of promotions. Mary also helped with her husband, Christopher's business. Christopher was a self-employed Mason Contractor. The Sprague's were a charter sponsor of a Warrensburg Little League team. In addition to monetary support, "Aunt Mary," as she was known throughout town to all, also helped "The Hot Dog Lady" with concessions. She also operated an ice cream stand in Warrensburg. Mary was also a correspondent for the Warrensburg – Lake George News.

Mary married the love of her life, Christopher G. Sprague of Warrensburg and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, a milestone that meant the world to her.

Mary's family meant everything to her and she was the family historian who knew what everyone was doing. Aunt Mary's friends were also an important part of her life.

Mary loved to travel and her many trips to Cape Cod, Massachusetts were very special to her.

Aunt Mary helped to make Christmas and other special occasions magical for the Reed family.

Along with her parents, Mary is predeceased by her infant daughter, Crystal M. Sprague; two sisters, Isabell Reed and Anna Baker; two brothers, Ernest Matteson and Arthur Mattison; Ruth Pasco, who was like a sister to Mary; and her 16-year-old toy poodle and lap dog, Nikki.

Mary is survived by many relatives and friends who will cherish her memory, including her husband, Christopher G. Sprague and their son, Christopher G. Sprague II and his companion, Lorrie Wolf of Warrensburg; her goddaughter, Kimberly (Baker) Tucker; and her close friend, Gloria Edmunds.

Mary has requested that no services be held.

A private burial will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
