Obituary

WARRENSBURG --- In the evening hours of December 30, 2025, our beloved Matthew John Norton affectionately known as "Mattie" or "Nuckin," was called home after a brief bur courageous battle with cancer. Matthew would like you all to know that he is no longer in pain and his new gig is pretty sweet; shiny new wings, all his loved ones he's missed for years, and all the deer you could ever imagine.

Matthew was born at Glens Falls Hospital on March 21, 1975. He was quickly adored by all who came into contact with him, with his fun-loving demeanor and larger-than-life personality. He was a loving and devoted father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He loved his family more than anything.

Matthew was truly and outdoorsy man, spending a majority of his adult life in logging and carpentry industries. He, unlike most, actually loved to work, especially with his brother, Joel, and brother-in-law, Ian. When he wasn't at work, you could often still find him in the woods "slaying a buck" with his good friend, Bucky Sullivan, fishing, grilling, camping and definitely enjoying a cold Coors Light. Some of his most favorite memories were of his trips to Colorado, New Jersey, and Florida!

Matthew's greatest joy in life was to be a dad, and you could often hear him gloating about his "baby girls." You could often find him at a roller-skating rink, arcades, amusement parks, beaches, parks or wherever his daughters wanted to go. He was a big kid at heart. When he wasn't there, he was probably with his Mama shopping or eating out together at their favorite place, Texas Roadhouse.

Matthew is preceded in death by his beloved father, Milton Norton; his older sister, Jane Tyrell; as well as brothers-in-law, Larry Denton and Ken Russell; and many, many good friends who are ready to welcome him home.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Cassidy L. Lewis and Millie J. Norton; his Mama, Lynda J. Lanphere; many siblings, including Connie Russell, Mark Norton, Joel Norton, Theresa Schuster, Kevin Norton and Stacey Lapointe; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. Special thanks to Jimmy Sherman for being there every day.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the amazing doctors and nurses who cared for Matthew during his brief illness: doctors Chris Smith and Shaun Lofus and the numerous nurses who loved him, Tesha, Ava, Morgan, Caitlyn, Jenn, Christopher and many more.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
