Obituary

SOUTH GLENS FALLS --- Maurice J. "Max" McLaughlin, 66, of White Birch Estates, South Glens Falls, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012 from Glens Falls Hospital after complications of heart valve surgery.
Born January 6, 1946 in Rutland, Vermont, he was one of eight children of the late Maurice F. "Buck" and Agnes L. "Loretta" (McGrath) McLaughlin.
After moving to Ticonderoga at a very young age, Max attended Ticonderoga High School until 1963 where upon he entered the United States Navy. He served two years with the Infamous Ceremonial Honor Guard at Washington D.C. then two years with Fighter Squadron VF-102 out of Virginia Beach and aboard the U. S. S. Enterprise and U. S. S. America. Following his honorable discharge, Max worked for International Paper Company until 1970 when he joined New York State Department of Corrections retiring in 1996.
Max enjoyed many hobbies but he really enjoyed playing golf with his foursome Bruce, Gillingham, Ed, and of course, Raymond. He was always falsely accused of stirring the pot and playing practical jokes.
Besides his parents, two sisters, Joyce and Margaret, and one brother, James have predeceased him.
Survivors include six sons, Robert (Bridgett) of Ticonderoga, John and Patrick of New York City, Joe, Max Jr., and Darby all of Ticonderoga; two sisters, Pat Szabo (Bill) of South Glens Falls, and Maureen Stacy of Ticonderoga; two brothers, Michael of Colorado and Thomas of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
He is also survived by his wife and constant companion, Sandra Turpin; two-step daughters, Rebecca Turpin and Amy Carbotti (Shaun) of Fort Ann; also four grandchildren, Kyle McLaughlin, Alissa Benson, and Devlyn and Teeghan McLaughlin.
At his request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
Interment, with military honors, will take place Tuesday, July 10, at 10 a.m. at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
Following the interment, friends are invited to join his family for a gathering at the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge No. 81 on Cronin Road, Queensbury, where he loved to get together with his brothers, too many to mention.
Donations may be made, in loving memory of Max, to the Elks Lodge No. 81, Cronin Road, Queensbury, NY 12804.
