Obituary

FLORIDA – Michael Robert Eggleston, 62, died Jan. 17, 2015 at Florida Hospital in Orlando in the arms of his son and mom after a courageous long fought battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
He was the son of Robert and Joyce Eggleston of Queensbury and Zephyrhills, Florida.

Michael was a 1970 graduate of Queensbury High School where he excelled in both academics and wrestling. He met his soulmate of 41 years, Jan Christine Godin, while in high school and they married shortly thereafter. He went on to earn an Associate's Degree while serving in the United States Air Force for 23 years, where he served in Vietnam, The Cold War, and the first Gulf War. During his time, they travelled all over the U.S. and Europe with their son and two daughters.

He retired, with honor, from the Air Force in 1993 as a Master Sergeant and moved to his, and Jan's, dream house in Deltona, Florida. He continued on with a 20 year career with the United States Postal Service where he, once again, served with honor and made many friends along the way.

Michael was a long time member of the NRA and American Legion. He was a highly skilled hunter and fisherman with several dozens of trophy catches. He was also an insatiable reader throughout his life, easily finishing multiple thousands, and was usually known to be reading 6 books at a time. He loved knowledge and was extremely sharp. He seemed to remember everything he had ever read or heard. Michael was also a very competent carpenter, plumber, electrician, and auto-mechanic assisting family and friends countless times over the years. Possessing a strong sense of humor, he regularly traded good natured jabs with everyone he encountered.
He adored spending time with his 3 children and 7 grandchildren; seeing them every opportunity he could. He was a wonderful son, husband, and father who will be sorely missed; leaving a giant hole in everyone's heart who had the privilege of knowing him.

Michael was predeceased by his loving wife, Jan Christine Eggleston; his grandparents, Edward and Violet Eggleston and Robert and Josephine Smith. He is survived by: his parents Robert and Joyce Eggleston of Queensbury, NY and Zephyrhills, FL; sisters Sharon (Ronald) Robillard of Queensbury, NY and Jody Eggleston of Hudson Falls, NY; son Robert (Christie) Eggleston of Albany, NY; daughters Tracy (Josh) Sigmon of Groves, TX, and Lysa (Adam) Perkins of Dover, DE; grandchildren: Caitlyn, Anthony, Cole, Ariana, Matthew, Elysia, and Janna; mother-in-law Gail (Jim) Lefever of Sarasota, FL; in laws: Jerry Godin of Corinth, NY, Judy Schenk of Fort Meyers, FL, Tony Godin of Schuylerville, NY, and Jill (Mike) Gerry of Albany, NY; as well as, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

On behalf of Mike, and his entire family, we wish to thank the countless friends, family, and healthcare staff who worked so hard to help us in our time of need. A special heartfelt thanks to his cousin Rhonda (Jeff) Washburn - it will not be forgotten. He will now be reunited with his soul mate, Jan, where they will be interred together at the St. Alphonsus Cemetery in West Glens Falls, in the spring.
